In the year 2009, the Macross was the vital component in the beginning and the end of the Earth-Zentraedi war. Now a monument of Human/Zentraedi unity, the huge fortress and its city play host to U.N. Spacy Government's 30th Anniversary Armistice, featuring Sharon Apple's intergalactic concert debut.

When it first crashed on Atalia Island in the South Pacific in 1999, the alien ship underwent a 10-year reconstruction by the U.N. Spacy and was christened SDF-1 Macross. Shortly after its christening, Zentraedi forces arrived within Earth's orbit and engaged in battles with the Macross and its forces. The Macross, along with a chunk of the city around it, folded out within Neptune's orbit. Its crew and the 56,000 civilians aboard became the key to mankind's survival after Bodolza's fleet executed the "Shower of Death" on Earth's atmosphere, wiping out 99% of the population. In the end, the Macross and Breetai's fleet put an end to Bodolza's reign of terror.
